Why the project is needed

Digital transformation requires more than access to technology

Digital wellbeing is not only about screen time. Digital technologies influence almost every part of school life: learning, communication, relationships, attention, safety, workload and wellbeing. While they create important opportunities, schools often manage their effects through separate rules, isolated activities or individual teacher initiatives.

TechWell project addresses this gap through a structured policy experimentation process built on cross-sectoral collaboration and an International Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue. Public authorities, universities, pedagogical institutions, educational organisations, EdTech actors and school communities co-design, test and refine practical solutions in real educational settings across six countries.

The whole-school approach connects leadership decisions, teaching routines, student voice, family communication and support procedures. Schools start from their own context, choose realistic priorities, test practical routines and review what improved.

Overall objective

To support schools in building healthier, safer, more inclusive and purposeful digital environments by equipping them with practical strategies, guidance, tools and educational resources for whole-school improvement.

How TechWell project delivers its objectives

From development to evidence-based uptake

The following points translate the project objectives and Work Package structure into a concise, public-facing overview.

01

Develop the Digital Wellbeing Suite

Combine strategy, implementation guidance, school-level tools and educational resources into one coherent framework.

02

Build an International Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue

Bring together education authorities, public institutions, universities, research organisations, pedagogical bodies, schools, civil society, EdTech actors, teachers, students and families to share practices, identify needs and gaps, co-design practical solutions and build a lasting international community around digital wellbeing in education.

03

Create practical educational resources

Produce multilingual guides, lesson resources, videos and interactive materials for use in schools.

04

Test and refine the approach

Pilot the Digital Wellbeing Suite in diverse school contexts and use feedback, monitoring and impact evidence to improve it.

05

Support sustainability and wider uptake

Develop recommendations, partnerships and long-term pathways for continued use beyond the pilot period.

Intervention logic

How the project progresses

Each stage provides evidence and inputs for the next.

Stage 1

Dialogue, analysis and engagement

Identify needs, map existing practices and involve key stakeholders through International Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue.

Stage 2

Co-design and develop

Develop the Digital Wellbeing Suite, implementation guidance and educational resources.

Stage 3

Pilot and evaluate

Test the approach in schools, collect evidence and refine the tools.

Stage 4

Sustain and scale

Translate findings into recommendations and pathways for wider adoption.

Why policy experimentation matters: TechWell project tests the approach in real school settings across six countries and draws together evidence and experience to improve practice and inform wider policy uptake.
